Honduras Closes Border To Costa Rican Chicken
Following the report of the chicken Virus alert in Guácimo, Limón, Honduras decided to close it doors to Costa Rican chickens, which according Sergio Navas, vice-president of the Cámara de Exportadores de Costa Rica (Cadexco), it is costing millions in losses.

"That is the reason to support all the work that is being carried out by Costa Rican authorities to resolve the problem as soon as possible so that the border doors will be open to Costa Rican chicken", said Navas.

The president of the Cámara Nacional de Avicultores, Alejandro Hernández, added that the Servicio Nacional de Salud Animal has sent an invitation to Honduran authorities and to the rest of the Central American authorities, to inspect the chicken farms and processing plants in Costa Rica.

"It is not possible that they take an arbitrary measure of this type without being conscious of the virus that is being analyzed and that it has not gone beyong the origial farm and definitely is not related to bird flu", said Hernández.

Hernández added that the measures taken by the Servicio Nacional de Salud Animal is a temporary measure and that if they (Hondurans) have any doubt they should come to Costa Rica and do all the necessary analysis and inspection and will see that this was an "isolated case".

The Ministro de la Producción (formerly head of the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería - MAG), Alfredo Volio Pérez, said he will be meeting today the Honduran Agricultural Minister, Héctor Hernández, in Guatemala.
