83 Year Old Woman Fights Off
Attacker
A thief well known to police
ended up in the arms of the law
when he attempted to break into
the house and rob 83 year old
María de los Ángeles Muñoz, who
facing the dangerous man, who
didn't think twice to defend her
home and her 53 year old niece
who was beaten by the thief.
The 34 year old man, identified
only by his last name, Flores,
has been in and out of police
custody at least 20 times,
mostly for robbery and assault,
tried to break into the Muñoz
home located near the rotonda, Y
Griega, on the south side of San
José shortly after 10:00am.
"My niece called to me that
there was a man in the patio.
When I went to see, the mand had
already broken the lock on the
back door and was in the
kitchen, hitting my niece with
his fist. When he picked up a
metal bar to strike her, I
confronted him and took the bar
fro him", said Doña María, who
affirms that she was not scared
of bums like Flores.
Doña María sprained her wrist in
the altercation to take away the
bar from the mans hand.
"When he saw that I wasn't an
easy target he decided to go out
the patio and jump the fence,
running off with a radio that I
had outside, but thanks to a
valiant efforts of a street
vendor who chased the man to the
rotonda, caught him and held
until police arrived", added
Doña María, who was clear that
it was not the police who caught
the man but the street vendor
who caught with him, got into a
fight with him and held him
until police arrived.
Flores is a well known car thief
with more than 20 arrests and
stints in jail.
