Colombia-Venezuela Shore up
Border
Colombia and Venezuela have
agreed on a bilateral
cooperation-information plan to
reinforce security and fight
against crime and
drug-trafficking along the
common border, according to an
official statement Tuesday.
Venezuelan Interior Minister
Jesse Chacon made the
announcement after a meeting
with Colombia´s Deputy Interior
Minister Hernando Angarita and
Andres Peñate, chair of the
Administrative Security
Department.
According to Chacon, they
created an investigation team
with both nations´ intelligence
agents plus a real-time
consultation system of judicial
background that could be
consulted by their authorities.
Both parties advanced over the
technological support given by
Colombia to detect illicit crops
on the border, money laundering
and dealing in stolen vehicles.
The Venezuelan official
announced, as well, several
meetings in March of special
commissions to better operative
works at the 2,219 kilometer
border.
The Colombian government issued
an official release upon
Chacon´s visit that affirms the
two states will exchange
information on armament traffic
and the presence of guerrilla
and paramilitary members in
Venezuelan soil.
It addition, they will deal with
the location of Venezuelan
military dissidents in Colombia.
