Failed Stop Cause of Train
Accident Number 7 Yesterday
Surprisingly there haven't been
too many accidents between the
train and automobiles. And the
few have only cause vehicle
damage and no fatal injuries.
The latest accident occurred
yesterday in an industrial zone
of Pavas, when a vehicle
belonging to the U.S. Embassy
failed to respect a stop sign,
colliding with the train. The
accident occurred at 4:30pm.
According to police, the driver
was distracted and with windows
rolled up did not hear the
train's whistle blows. A witness
told police that the vehicle
left the Embassy in a hurry and
there was no way for the train
to stop.
One of the passengers of the
vehicle was taken to hospital
for observation after receiving
the heavy blow.
This is accident number 7 since
the train began operation in
October, following years of
absence.
Since the train operates only in
the morning and afternoon rush
hours, many drivers are still
not accustomed to the train and
do not pay attention to the
railway crossings. The train
moves slowly through the
populated areas and crosses some
heavy traffic intersections
where there are no barriers,
only signs painted on the road
pavement.
