No Surprises in Mexican
Campaign
The electoral campaign in Mexico
concluded its second week Friday
without bombshells in the main
candidates" campaigns or changes
in their positions in surveys.
According to the latest poll,
the ninth by El Universal daily,
Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador,
from Por el bien de todos (For
the Good of All) coalition,
remains leading with 40 percent
of voter intention.
He is followed by Felipe
Calderon, from Accion Nacional
(PAN), with 33 percent, and
Roberto Madrazo, from Alianza
por Mexico, grouping
Revolucionario Institutional
(PRI) and the Green, with 26
percent.
Lopez Obrador, of the
left/center-left coalition
formed by Revolucion Democratica
(PRD), Trabajo and Convergencia
por la Democracia, had a similar
positiony in November.
Calderon and Madrazo were higher
by two and five percent,
respectively, in the previous
survey.
The three leading candidates
viewed results of the latest
poll with optimism, as Lopez
Obrador said he was leading in
all surveys and the other two
considered they were improving
their positions gradually.
