Cocaine Seized at Airport
The Costa Rican Drug Control
police confiscated 200 kilos of
cocaine at the Juan Santamaría
International (San José)
Airport, police sources stated
Friday.
The police, who had been
informed of the stopover of a
commercial plane from Caracas to
Mexico that transported cocaine,
considered the seizure the
largest in the nation's history.
Neither the name of the sender
nor of the addressee was on the
baggage, preventing authorities
from identifying the people
involved.
The aircraft landed in Costa
Rica to be refueled, said the
police, who believe the cocaine
shipment is linked with others
seized in Mexico recently, given
the way they were transported
and hidden.
On January 6, 27.3 kilos of
cocaine from Costa Rica were
confiscated at the Mexico City
Airport. The luggage also lacked
names of senders and addressees.
Twenty people were arrested at
that airport in 2005, most
carrying a small quantity of
drugs hidden in their baggage or
adhered to their body.
