No Results in Search For
Girls Body
Rescue efforts by the Cruz Roja
(Red Cross), residents and the
family of Stephanie Carmona were
without results yesterday
following the disappearance of
the nine year old who drowned
with two other little girls and
a woman on Tuesday.
Efforts in small boats, some
swimming while others walked the
banks of the river were
fruitless in locating the body
of the little girl.
The search began in an area
called the "hueco del gringo"
where the accident occurred down
the river about to the
installations of the Ministerio
de Obras Públicas y Transportes
(MOPT), about 15 kilometres.
Rescue workers are hoping that
the little girl's body will
float and become visible in the
fast moving Saripiquí river, the
same river that is used by many
tour operators for river
rafting.
The search was called off last
night at 5:30pm when the sun
went down and will resume at day
break this morning, at 5am.
"This has been the worst night
of my life, I wish it on no
one", said JOrge Carmona, father
of the little girl, who along
with his wife and other family
members were up early yesterday
to begin the search.
Some residents are asking why
would the woman, one the little
girls grandmother, take them to
the swimming hole when it has
been raining. Yesterday, search
efforts were hampered on three
occasions as it rained heavily
during the day. During this time
of year the river is faster and
more dangerous due to the rain.
