Fill
Today As Gasoline Prices Go Up
Tomorrow
At the stroke of midnight
tonight drivers will feel the
ding in their pocket books as
the price of gasoline prices
rise a whopping ¢35 colones for
a litre of super, following the
publication of the approval by
the Autoridad Reguladora de los
Servicios Públicos (Aresep) in
the official government
newspaper, La Gaceta.
The price for a litre of regular
gasoline will jump by ¢34
colones and diesel ¢16 colones a
litre. What the increase means
is that it will cost ¢1.575 more
to fill a 45 litre tank with
super gasoline come tomorrow.
Prices for natural gas used in
vehicles will alos jump tomorrow
from the current ¢292 a litre to
¢302.
Tomorrow's increase is the first
for 2006. The increase is based
on an increase of ¢4 colones per
litre to the gasoline retailers
and the rest to adjust for the
rising cost of crude oil on
world markers purchased by the
Refinadora Costarricense de
Petróleo (Recope), based on
closing markets of December 22.
Recope is the state monopoly on
petroleum products.
Recope has another jump in the
works that will see prices go up
another 10.8% or ¢28 colones for
a litre of super and ¢26 for a
litre of regular and a 17.8% or
¢35 increase for diesel. That
request is still being
considered by the Aresep.
