Bolivia, First Day of New Era
Bolivia has entered the first
day of a new era, with its
people playing a decisive role
in it, following festivities on
Sunday evening.
"We cannot waste a minute; we
should resume the struggle to
accomplish our commitment to
building a homeland for all
Bolivians," said President Evo
Morales and Vice President
Alvaro Garcia.
The fight against corruption and
illiteracy, recovery of natural
resources and a program to
provide the entire population
with medical
assistance are included in the
historic platform of the new
Government.
Morales and Garcia assured the
era of institutional, economic
and social crisis, and a state
dependent and submissive to
foreign powers had ended.
The December 18 voting in favor
of Morales and the huge rally to
support him on Sunday are clear
messages of the end of the
system of social inequity,
racism and immorality, asserted
Morales before thousands of
supporters at the San Francisco
Square.
Indigenous people, workers,
miners and the population in
general are now in power to
create a strong and large State
for 8.5 million Bolivians.
Unity in diversity is also one
of the key issues of the
governmental platform to be
announced soon.
Morales proved his government
would differ from previous ones
by saying he would favor talks
with the US but without yielding
to its blackmails and
intervention in domestic
affairs.
Times have changed and Bolivian
authorities are fostering
regional
integration as way to construct
the Great Bolivia.
Heads of State and delegations
from 50 nations attended
Morales´
swearing-in at the Congress,
prior to the military parade and
a huge rally on January 22,
following the indigenous
ceremony in Tiwanacu on January
21.
