US Embassy Denies 8 Year Old
AIDS Victim Visa
Having AIDS is the only
impediment an 8 year old girl
has from living her dream of
visiting Mickey Mouse.
Newspapers have been banned
publishing the name or fotos of
the little girl, by all
appearances is a normal eight
year old, who was infected with
AIDS by her parents who then
abandoned her.
The little girl's dream is to
visit Disneyland, however, the
United States Embassy in Costa
Rica continues to deny her a
visa. Her first request was
denied, as well as the second.
The Embassy explains that it is
a U.S. policy not to grant a
visa to any person who has AIDS.
The visa application does not
ask the question if the
applicant has AIDS and the
Embassy would never know unless
the applicant is forthcoming
with the information and is then
denied, such as the case of the
little girl.
Efforts to sway Embassy
officials have so far failed.
The U.S. Embassy in Costa Rica
has been known in the past to
move heaven and earth to help
out in cases on humanitarian
grounds. However, it is staying
firm in this case, only saying
it will send a letter to the
U.S. government.
The little girl and her adoptive
family are holding on to an
answer.
