Bachelet: Working Non Stop
Without Rushing
Chilean President-elect Michelle
Bachelet said she is "working
nonstop but without hurry" to
choose the Cabinet she plans to
announce within 10 days.
The former health and defense
minister, to assume office March
11, recalled that her office
will be four years, not six like
her predecessor, so her Cabinet
must be made up of the best men
and women.
The first woman ever elected
president in Chile and Latin
America called on the parties
making up the ruling coalition,
Concertación Democrática
(Democratic Alliance), to stop
worrying about pre-electoral
remarks that in her
administration "no one will have
seconds."
In her first public appearance
since winning the presidential
elections last Sunday, Bachellet
said Thursday that she will take
care of her campaign commitments
and promises and, on the other
hand, make up a cabinet
characterized by equality and
excellence.
Bachelet thanked the support
given by the La Pintana vicinity
and welcomed in her residence
leading members of the Communist
Party to show her appreciation
for their support.
She also met with Papal Nuncio
Aldo Cavalli with whom she spoke
about human values, the family,
poverty, health and education.
The prelate stressed that her
agnostic condition does not
hinder the dialogue.
"A person can be Catholic,
agnostic, Muslim or whatever,
but there´s a common base for
all, we are human and therefore
we can talk and build many
bridges together," said Cardinal
Cavalli.
