Elections Security
Som 14.000 Fuerza Pública police
officers, Cruz Roja (Red Cross)
workers and Tránsito officials
will be on hand to provide
securit on election day, Sunday
February 5. Police will be on
hand at all voting booths, while
the Red Cross will be on full
alert and Tránsito officials
will be controlling traffic. All
sales of liquor in stores, bars,
supermarkets, hotels, etc. will
be suspended beginning Saturday
Feb 4 and re-open on Tuesday.
The Magistrados del Tribunal
Supremo de Elecciones prohibit
the sale and consumption of
alcohol in public place the day
before, the day of and the day
after the elections.
School Fund
Public sector employees are
receiving their second bonus in
less than two months. The
administrion of Figueres Olsen
(1994-1998) established a school
fund for all public sector
employees who will received
8.19% of their salary for
December and January, to be used
to help families prepare their
children for then new school
year. This year the fund will
pay out ¢40 billion colones
(us$80 milion dollars).
