Police Seize 378 kg Cocaine
The Policía de Control de Droga
(Drug Control Police) - PCD -
has seized 378 kg of cocaine in
Costa Rica's northern frontier
neighboring Nicaragua, the
Ministerio de Seguridad Pública
announced in a statement on
Sunday.
PCD agents found 19 packets
containing cocaine hidden in the
false wall of a truck carrying
soap powder at Penas Blancas.
The driver, a 34-year-old
Nicaraguan, was arrested.
Costa Rican authorities seized
close to 10 tons of cocaine in
2005, the biggest total seizure
in the country's history,
beating 1997's record of more
than seven tons.
Authorities have arrested some
6,850 people linked to the drug
trade in the past year, 87 of
whom were foreigners, including
Colombian, Guatemalan, French
and U.S. citizens.
Costa Rica's largest seizure to
date was in April last year,
when authorities found 2.5 tons
of cocaine close to the
country's Caribbean coast.
