Free Flu Vaccination Program
Beings Today; Seniors and
Children Targeted
The Ministerio de Salud (Health
Ministry) together with the Caja
Costarricense de Seguro Social (CCSS)
today begins its annual
vaccination against the flu. All
those over the age of 65 and
children up to 5 years old are
the target group who are
encouraged to get vaccinated,
free of charge.
Ministra de Salud, María del
Rocío Sáenz Madrigal, the
program will run until January
20 and urges all senior citizens
and parents of young children to
visit their nearest clinic for
their shots.
The official opening of the
vaccination program will be at
the Clinica Carlos Durán
beginning at 9am this morning.
Minister Saénz along with the
president of the CCSS, Dr.
Alberto Saénz Pacheco, will be
there.
Salud said that they have
300.000 doses, 265.000 for
seniors and 35.000 for children
for all areas of the country,
which is available at CCSS
clinics, hospitals and medical
centres known as Ebais.
Minister Saénz says that those
who got vaccinated last year
should get their flu shot again
this year as the virus strain
changes each year.
The cost of the vaccine will set
back the CCSS us$2 million
dollars.
