Pothole Protest Planned For
Today
Tired of the potholes? Yes?
Well, today is your day as the
Movimiento Cívico Nacional (MCN)
has prepared a protest outside
the installations fo the
Ministerio de Obras Pública y
Transportes (MOPT) to
demonstrate their discontent on
the number of potholes that
plague the country, the Riteve
(vehicular inspection company)
monopoly and the high price of
gasoline.
According to Albino Vargas,
secretary general of the
Asociación de Empleados Públicos
y Privados (ANEP) - the largest
of public workers unions - the
protest will kick off at 9am
this morning outside the MOPT
offices in Plaza Viquez and
expected to end by mid day.
The hopes are to make it known
to MOPT Minister, Randall Quirós,
how Costa Ricans feel and that
he and his officials will tackle
the three problems. Speeches
will be made and brochures will
be handed out.
Vargas is calling on everyone to
come out and make their voice
heard. Vargas is hoping that a
large number of taxi drivers,
truckers and farmers will attend
the protest for a unified voice
against the poor conditions of
the roads and the state monopoly
that is forcing added costs to
daily lives of Costa Rican
workers.
