Strike
The strike headed by Salvadorian
health workers in demand of the
promised salary increase
continues Saturday in this
capital.
According to governmental
officials, members of the Social
Assistance and Health Ministry
Workers Association kept seven
hospitals closed on Friday.
Workers on strike demand a
salary increase of 10 percent
for public employees endorsed by
the government and expected to
come into effect by the current
year, explained Cayetano Castro,
president of the Social
Assistance and Health Ministry
Workers Association.
Strike days covered health
institutions in different parts
of the country in a protest
strengthening after the
capital"s hospitals joined the
demand and stopped working
either.
In all cases, practices were
suspended but emergency
assistance was maintained,
assured Cayetano.
The decree 934 approved by the
Legislative Assembly on December
21, 2005 benefits over 20,000
Salvadorian health workers
providing them with a maximum
