Cartago Route Has New Stops With the Change of Operator
Taking a bus to and from Cartago? Be warned that the bus start and end stops that has served for years is now changed, as the bus company SACSA loses its concession to the new operator, LUMASA.

The Consejo de Transporte Público (CTP) has given the route to the new company following a number complaints against SACSA, mainly for poor service and rude drivers. LUMASA will operate the route with 102 buses beginning at 12:01am on January 15.

The CTP has defined the area in front of the As de Oros restaurant, just north of the Cartago ruins for the terminal in Cartago and in front of the Chavarria pharmacy, east of the Caja Costarricense del Seguro Social on Avenida Segunda in San José. These are the principal stations between the two cities, buses that operate a slightly different route will have different stops.

SACSA drivers are still demanding the Consejo de Transporte Público to intervene on their behalf to force the company to pay them their "liquidaciones" or termination pay, among other things. LUMASA refused to hire SACSA drivers, saying that many complaints by riders of the route were against drivers and they did not want to fall into the same situation as SACSA.

SACSA has said it is bankrupt and it cannt pay the termination as well as the required contributions to the CCSS and any other monies it owes its employees. In some cases, the CCSS, the national health system, contributions have not been made for three years.

Come Sunday morning, those travelling to and from Cartago can hope for a better service, newer and safer vehicles and in the confidence that the authorities met their demands of many years.
