Price of Bread Increases From ˘10 to ˘50 Colones
Rising gasoline prices has made headlines over the past year, with never ending increases, the next one due in the coming weeks. In the meantime, bread is making the news, with a whopping increase of between ˘10 and ˘50 colones, this due to rising cost of flour, which has gone from ˘10.520 to ˘11.260 for 50Kg.

Bakeries and breadmakers are forced to reflect this increase in the price of their products from bread to pastries.

Mauricio Parenti, owner of a local bakery, says that it has become the norm that at the beginning of year the Molinos de Costa Rica raises its prices of flour. Rising gasoline prices, salaries and electrical power are the reasons given for the decision for the increase.

What this means is that a baguette will no cost an average of ˘240 colones, up fron ˘220 colones. Sliced white sandwich bread will go from ˘480 to ˘530 colones. Other bread and pastry products will see increases as well.
