Caribbean States Appreciate

Association of Caribbean States
(ACS) Secretary General Ruben
Silie Valdez, on an official
visit to Cuba, highlighted
Island´s role in the Caribbean
integration process.
Silie Valdez, in Cuba on the
invitation of Foreign Minister
Felipe Perez Roque, recognized
the Havana´s willingness to
develop regional integration as
an ACS member.
On Tuesday, at the Foreign
Ministry headquarters, the
Caribbean leader held official
talks with Perez Roque who
repeated the island´s
disposition to strengthen that
regional body.
Silie Valdez also dialogued with
Foreign Trade and Tourism
ministers, Raul de la Nuez and
Manuel Marrero, respectively, as
those industries along with
transport and disasters are
issues of interest for ACS
collaboration.
The ACS General Secretary is
scheduled to meet Wednesday with
Cuban Vice President Carlos Lage
Davila and Transport Minister
Carlos Manuel Pazo Torrado.
He will also visit the Latin
American School of Medicine,
where young people from
different nations, including the
Caribbean, are studying for
free. The distinguished visitor
will also see other scientific,
social and economic venues.
Cuba is a founding member of the
ASC, created July 24, 1994, in
Colombia to promote long-range
cooperation among Caribbean
nations.
