Argentine police seize 738 kg
of cocaine
Argentine police have seized 738
kg of cocaine and arrested eight
suspects in the eastern province
of Buenos Aires, local police
stated on Monday.
Officers stormed a farm in Jose
C. Paz municipality, 40 km north
of the capital of Buenos Aires
in the last minutes of 2005,
seizing 3.7 million U.S. dollars
worth of cocaine, their largest
seizure for 2005.
The raid came after a three-year
investigation. The suspects,
including a pregnant women, came
from one family, police said.
The cocaine had been stored in a
warehouse in Salvador Maza, in
Salta province, close to the
Bolivian border.
The police investigators learned
two years ago that cocaine was
being sent to Spain in coal
boxes, hence, the operation was
dubbed" Carbon Blanco 2" (White
Coal 2).
Police said the bulk of the
newly seized cocaine was from
Bolivia, but a small part of it
was from Colombia.
The traffickers had been
planning to sell the product on
the Atlantic coast of Buenos
Aires province, Argentina's main
tourist destination, police
said.
