New Zoo
To Open in Guanacaste
A new zoo will soon open its
doors in Liberia, Guanacaste,
that will include many species
of animals never seen in Costa
Rica, like Giraffes and
Hippopotamuses. The new zoo is
being built with private capital
but will be totally national.
The zoo will be called "Africa
Mia" and is located some 5
kilometres south of Liberia on
the Interamerican highway, in an
area known as El Salto.
Giraffes, Ostrich, antelopes and
zebras are only a few of the
exotic animals featured at the
zoo in a truly Guanacaste
setting.
Ángel Arce, manager of the zoo,
says that tourists will be able
to enjoy tours and see a variety
of different animals, that will
also be a stage for television
and film projects like "La Isla
de los hombres solos" by writer
José León Sánchez, that will
include footage from the
infamous San Lucas prison.
The zoo is set on about 100
hectares of ladn and will employ
40 locals in addition to group
of biologists and animal
experts.
The zoo is expected to open its
doors in March.
