Climbing the Chirripó Fascinates
Many
With each step as he climbed the
highest point in Costa Rica -
Cerro Chiripó at 3.820 metres -
former president Miguel Angel
Rodríguez fulfilled a promise
made while in a jail cell in La
Reforma almost a year ago.
Like he did in 2001, the former
president, left behind anyone
who couldn't keep up with him,
to reach the top and to offer a
prayer for his dead son.
Accompanying him was his cousin,
Minister of the Environment,
Carlos Manuel Rodríguez, who
told the press that the trip to
climp "this mystic place" had
been planned since last
November.
Climbing the Chirripó has
fascinated many over the years,
like Marta Ligia Cordero, who
after six other attempts, this
year took the title for Women's
Carrera al Chirripó, completing
the climb in only 4 hours and 49
mintues.
