Unions Preparing Argentina-Uruguay Meeting
Uruguay's largest trade union confederation, PIT-CNT, confirmed Friday to Prensa Latina that a meeting of MERCOSUR trade unions is being organized to try to solve the Uruguay-Argentina environmental dispute.

Union leaders are trying to establish dialogue proposals to present to the governments of Tabare Vazquez (Uruguay) and Nestor Kirchner (Argentina) in order to prevent the crisis from worsening.

Calls to remain calm and seek solutions are a very important factor at this moment, said a reliable PIT-CNT source, who is holding systematic contacts with Argentine counterparts.

Meanwhile, in remarks from the US, Uruguayan Acting Foreign Minister Belela Herrera confirmed that the Organization of American States has agreed to mediate the conflict triggered by the Uruguayan construction of supposed polluting cellulose plants on the border, and escalated by Argentine road blockade.
