Solidarity with Cuba Meeting
Opens in Mexico
The 11th National Solidarity
with Cuba Meeting in Mexico will
open at the Workers´ University,
in the historic heart of the
capital, and will be attended by
representatives from all over
the country.
The Mexican Movement of
Solidarity with Cuba (MMSC) said
in a press release that the
two-day meeting will analyze the
new actions to be taken in
support of the Cuban people
against aggressions by the
United States and its allies.
It will also debate a report on
the situation of five Cuban
political prisoners in the
United States and the struggle
for their release, according to
the communiqué.
The MMSC pointed out that the
meeting will also discuss the
activities that will be taken to
condemn the expulsions of 16
Cuban officials from a hotel
owned by the US chain Sheraton
in this capital on February 3.
That action unleashed a wave of
indignation in several sectors
of Mexican society, which
described the expulsions as a
violation of national
sovereignty and an imposition of
foreign laws in the country.
Another matter to be discussed
is a campaign to denounce the
decision announced by Mexican
Foreign Minister Luis Ernesto
Derbez to vote, once again, in
favor of an anti-Cuba motion at
the United Nations Human Rights
Commission this year.
