Blue Flag for 57 Beaches
This year, 57 beaches will fly
the blue flag that symbolizes
the effort made by coastal
communities to protect these
areas.
The Ecology Blue Flag Program
added seven beaches to its honor
roll this year, and it did also
with 21 inland communities and
220 schools.
The Program was established in
1996 as an annual evaluation
that would encourage the hotel
and tourist sectors as well as
beach communities to protect the
environment and improve the
overall conditions.
Minister of Tourism Rodrigo
Castro said that the program is
a guarantee seal for tourists,
who will find cleaner and safer
environments in the places
flying the blue flag.
