Solís
and PAC in Shut-In; TSE Says It
Needs More Time to Name
President
Ottón Solís and his Partido
Acción Ciudadana (PAC) officials
have been in an "encerrona" - a
shut-in - since yesterday
(Friday) and will continue to do
so until tomorrow (Sunday).
The shut-in includes the 18
legislative deputies elected to
for the next session of the
Asamblea Legislativa.
The closed meeting is to
reaffirm the objectives and
plans of the party for the
coming next four years. Though
the Tribunal Supremo de
Elecciones (TSE) has yet to
proclaim the next president,
Solís came in second in the
manual vote count concluded
Wednesday and is appearing to
accept his role as opposition to
Oscar Arias, who will
undoubtedly form the next
government.
By telephone, Solís told the
press "we have a proporal for
the development of the country
and ethical conduct and we want
to reaffirm these concepts and
responsibilities to the next
legislators."
Solís added that the objectives
of the meeting to "fullfill"
campaign promises. "We have the
confidence of the Costa Rican
public and for that we will
respond with proposals that will
become reality", said Solís.
In the meantime, the TSE is
being very frank that it doubts
that it will be able to make a
proclamation in the coming days
as it first was announced.
Oscar Fonseca, president of the
TSE, said yesterday that March 6
will be a more realistic date
for a proclamation, as the TSE
carefully studies the number of
complaints before it over the
February 5 election, including a
call by former presidential PLN
candidate, José Miguel Corrales,
who is calling for the TSE to
scrap the whole election based
on unconstitutionality.
