Who Is Fighting Violence in Honduras?
The wave of violence sweeping across Honduras puts newly appointed Security Minister Alvaro Romero in a delicate position.

Romero has differed publicly with a Forensic Medicine report of 710 homicides in the first 45 days of the year, claiming the number is 381 hence less, rather than more, violent crime.

Public Prosecutor Sandra Ponce announced a probe into police violence to determine the existence of an organized group of executioners or ties with gangs, like the dangerous Maras.

Human Rights Commissioner Ramon Custodio censured the minister, in his job only 26 days, for ignoring denouncements by victims' relatives and the media of poor investigation and calls for a preventive policy.

Attorney General Leonidas Rosa Bautista conditioned a successful anti-crime fight on coordination between law enforcement and the judicial power.
