Border Between Costa Rica and Panama Remains Blocked
In an open letter to the Costa Rican president Abel Pacheco, the Chambers of Transportation of Panama, Costa Rica and Nicaragua have asked to revoke a resolution that makes the use of electronic marchamo mandatory, because they say it violates international regulations and agreements.

The letter explains that not only does the measure affects the relations between Central American governments, it also raises the cost of transport and is an obstacle for free trade in the region.

The Costa Rican "transportistas" claim that the decree is unconstitutional, because taxes can only be established by law and not by decree.

Traffic at the border is only affecting cargo shipments and not buses and passenger vehicles.
