Chavez:
Defense Prep Essential
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez
has ratified the need to prepare
people for defense in the
likelihood of a military attack.
He made the statement at a
ceremony Wednesday evening at
the Military Academy where
participants unveiled a monument
in homage to Pedro Velazquez,
one of the most loyal
collaborators of that
institution.
"This is a peaceful nation and
we are all soldiers of peace,"
said Chavez, however he voiced
the will of Venezuelans to
defend their nation from any
affront or foreign intervention.
The dignitary called his people
to be “mentally, morally and
spiritually prepared,” and added
that the Venezuelan people would
do whatever to avoid war.
Similarly, he highlighted the
importance of the union between
the military power and the
masses as well as joint efforts
in support of social, political
and economical programs.
This institution"s permanent
homage to Velazquez´ example of
dignity and loyalty constitutes
a step forward in the recovery
of Venezuela"s historical memory
for the formation of new
generations.
