Mexicans Oppose US Meddling
Organizations of solidarity with
Cuba have launched a
signature-collecting campaign
among important Mexican figures
to protest against the
application of US anti-Cuban
laws in Mexico.
The action is part of protests
caused by the recent expulsion
of a Cuban delegation from the
Maria Isabel Sheraton Hotel in
Mexico City.
The document will be presented
to the Foreign Ministry during a
ceremony convened by the Mexican
Movement of Solidarity with Cuba
(MMSC).
There has been an excellent
response, MMSC chief Pedro
Geller told Prensa Latina. He
explained that the collection of
signatures will run through
Wednesday.
The document describes as
outrageous the response of the
government of President Vicente
Fox in view of the application
of US laws in Mexico.
What this is all about is a
clear violation of national
sovereignty because of the
extraterritorial application of
the Helms-Burton Act, which is
aimed at perpetuating the
criminal US blockade against the
Island, says the document.
The government of the Republic
ought to present a diplomatic
note of strong protest to
Washington, in defense of the
country"s dignity and decorum,
the text adds.
