Peru,
US seize 4 tons of cocaine in
joint operation
The coast guards of Peru and the
United States seized four tons
of cocaine on a fishing boat and
arrested all of the seven crew
members on aboard in a joint
operation, local media reported
on Saturday.
The boat aroused suspicion of
the Peruvian Coast Guard while
lingering around on the high
seas some 800 sea miles (around
1481.6 km) off Peru's coast.
Suspecting the boat of carrying
illegal materials, they reported
it to the U.S. Coast Guard.
The U.S. Coast Guard, which
carried out an operation
immediately after receiving the
information, and successfully
detained the Peruvian boat which
departed from the Chimbote port
in west Peru carrying huge
amount of drugs.
Those arrested include three
Peruvians and four Ecuadorians,
who were suspected of being
involved in black market
trading.
