Regional Growth
The Central American Economic
Integration Bank (BCIE in
Spanish) foresees a 3.7 percent
increase in production in
Central America this year,
slightly higher than last year’s
3.5 percent. Guatemala and
Honduras would experience the
largest growth, at 4 percent and
3.8 percent, respectively.
Costa
Rica would follow, at 3.2
percent, then Nicaragua (3.1
percent) and El Salvador (2.6
percent).
The estimate for Costa
Rica is a little under the 3.6
percent the Central Bank had
foreseen for this period. In
general, analysts see the
current year as a complex one
regarding economy.
They explain
that the outlook for the isthmus
will be influenced by the
moderation of the world’s
economic growth and of trade
exchange, even though the
expansion rates will remain
high.
