Bus/Truck Collision Leave 6 Dead, 15 Injured on Interamericana
Six dead and fifteen injured as a bus coming from El Salvador collided with a tractor trailer headed for Guatemala. The accident occurred on kilometre 132 of Interamerican highway, near Puntarenas.

The Ticabus, with 43 passengers of board, headed for San José was "clipped" by a truck headed north. Five women died at the scene, while a man died in hospital after he was rushed to the Monseñor Sanabria hospital in Puntarenas.

JOsé Serrano, regional director for the Tránsito del Pacífico Central, said the accident occurred on a tight curve on the road when the truck click the upper part of the bus from the fourth window to the rear, which impacted unto the passengers, causing the deaths and injuries.

The accident occurred at 7:30pm Saturday night, near the Aranjuez river just north of Puntarenas. A passenger on the bus said that they had left San Salvador at 3am and some of the passengers were sleeping at the time of the accident, being only a couple of hours away from San José.

In addition to the six deaths, the Cruz Roja (Red Cross) attended to 15 other passengers who had suffered injuries. Doctors at the Monseñor Sanabria hospital said that all the injured were in stable condition and most were Hondurans and Salvadorians.

The driver of the tractor trailer was also taken to hospital and is recovering. Initial reports were that the driver, who is Guatemalan, returning to his country with a load, had fled the scene. However, transit officials later learned that he was one of the persons taken to hospital.
