US: Survey Rejects Anti-Cuba
Policy
Most people who answered a
survey carried out by an
American newspaper oppose
measures against US companies
operating in other countries as
part of Washington´s blockade of
Cuba. according to a survey
carried out by a
California-based newspaper.
Should the embargo on Cuba be
enforced on US companies
operating in other countries?,
asked the internet survey by "La
Opinion," a California-based
publication. And 71.2 percent of
respondents said NO, 23.7
percent answered YES, and 5
percent was undecided.
The survey was carried out after
a Cuban business delegation was
expelled from a hotel in Mexico
on Washington´s orders, in an
“arrogant action that shows fear
of the strength of the
Revolution,” as Cuban daily
Granma put it on Monday.
“The decision shows the US
impotence in the light of
growing opposition from broad US
sectors of the absurd and
criminal blockade policy against
Cuba,” Granma said in an
editorial.
Mexican grassroots organizations
protested the extraterritorial
enforcement of anti-Cuba laws.
Solidarity groups rallied in
front of the Maria Isabel
Sheraton hotel, as Mexican
lawmakers strongly condemned the
expulsion of the Cuban
delegation.
The Treasury Department even
seized the money they had paid
for the accommodation.
A meeting had been scheduled at
the Maria Isabel Sheraton
between Cuban officials and
businesspeople with
representatives from large US
companies interested in the
potential of the Cuban energy
market.
Organized by the US-Cuban
Commerce Association, the
business gathering was open to
the media and press and would
bring together representatives
from Exxon Mobile, Caterpillar,
the Valero Energy Corporation,
which runs the US largest
refinery, and from the National
Council of Foreign Trade with
Cuban officials and
businesspeople.
Also attending were members of
the Louisiana State´s Economic
Development Department and the
Corpus Christi port in Texas.
