Cuba Promotes Camping
Camping is one of the options of
sustainable tourism, a
philosophy confirmed on Monday
by spokesmen committed to
promote that kind of leisure in
Cuba.
There are 85 campgrounds in Cuba
and the intention is to expand
them and improve service, said
Eduardo Tirado, President of the
Camping Enterprise Group, during
a press conference.
After 25 years promoting
camping, there are several plans
to improve the conditions of the
facilities with the opening of
new restaurants, apart from the
75 already existing.
Those facilities are used by
both national and international
tourism.
Many international travel
agencies promote the nice Cuban
climate conditions and
environmental preservation, thus
benefiting thus helping to
promote camping.
Projects are being carried out
to repair two large camping
facilities which were damaged by
hurricanes, Las Coloradas in
Granma and Jagua in Cienfuegos,
both with a high demand from
customers, said camping sources.
Other facilities like Yunque de
Baracoa campground in Guantanamo
and the Puerto Rico Libre in
Holguin are scheduled to be
remodelled.
Campismo Popular (People´s
Camping) was born as an
initiative to favour Cuban
families and later many foreign
tourists felt attracted by the
vacation centers.
