Cuba Promotes Camping
Camping is one of the options of sustainable tourism, a philosophy confirmed on Monday by spokesmen committed to promote that kind of leisure in Cuba.

There are 85 campgrounds in Cuba and the intention is to expand them and improve service, said Eduardo Tirado, President of the Camping Enterprise Group, during a press conference.

After 25 years promoting camping, there are several plans to improve the conditions of the facilities with the opening of new restaurants, apart from the 75 already existing.

Those facilities are used by both national and international tourism.

Many international travel agencies promote the nice Cuban climate conditions and environmental preservation, thus benefiting thus helping to promote camping.

Projects are being carried out to repair two large camping facilities which were damaged by hurricanes, Las Coloradas in Granma and Jagua in Cienfuegos, both with a high demand from customers, said camping sources.

Other facilities like Yunque de Baracoa campground in Guantanamo and the Puerto Rico Libre in Holguin are scheduled to be remodelled.

Campismo Popular (People´s Camping) was born as an initiative to favour Cuban families and later many foreign tourists felt attracted by the vacation centers.
