Mexicans Reject
US-Troop-Impunity
The Mexican Chamber of Deputies
rejected the US intention to
prevent their military officers
accused of crimes against
humanity or war crimes from
appearing before the
International Criminal Court.
Most legislators signed
agreement exhorting President
Vicente Fox to not sign a US
agreement proposal, entailing
immunity to their troops abroad.
The text elaborated by the
Foreign Affairs Committee warns
that the US government holds
meetings to make other countries
to sign treaties with that
objective.
It says Washington made the
application formal, threatening
to suspend all military aid to
this nation.
The Mexican Parliament Lower
Chamber said immunity is alien
to the Court statues´ nature and
recalled that Washington´s
intentions were already rejected
by the European Union.
