Increase In Savings
In spite of the high inflation recorded last year, Costa Ricans increased their savings in banks markedly, 21% more than in 2004, the Banco Central de Costa Rica (BCCR) reported.

However, the savings, in both dollars and the local currency, actually increased only by 7%, once inflation is taken into account.

According to the BCCR this trend points to an excess in cash, therefore requiring the central to strengthening their monetary policy.
