Guatemalans Demand Justice
Farmers from most Guatemalan
departments were still occupying
Parque de la Constitution in
this capital Thursday morning,
to demand distribution of lands
and an end to evictions and to
threats against their leaders.
Rafael Gonzalez, leader of the
Farmer Unity Committee,
gathering 1,000 farmers, said
that a meeting with the General
Prosecutor, Juan Luis Florido,
would take place.
Gonzalez assured in statements
to Prensa Latina that during the
meeting they will denounce the
lack of official will to solve
50 conflicts and punish those
behind the killing of farmer.
Demonstrators will also urge the
government to pursue a rural
integral development program;
they will also demand soft
credits and fair prices for
their products, and the
fulfillment of the peace
agreements.
