Beware of the Blackworm or
Kamasutra Virus!
'Kamasutra' Virus to Hit
Internet today. If the words 'Kamasutra'
make you go red in the face due
to embarassment, you have
another reason to see the same
colour.
A virus code-named 'Kamasutra'
is out there to get the innocent
computer user who just happens
to open a slightly, naughty
attachment.
This virus is basically a
mass-mailing worm that attempts
to spread through network shares
and lower security settings. On
the third day of every month it
attempts to rewrite files with
certain extensions with custom
text.
It has already affected more
than 500,000 PCs worldwide.
If the attachments containing
the virus are opened, the virus
can copy itself across shared
networks and send itself to
e-mail addresses on your PC
before commencing to destroy all
the files on the third day of
the month.
The primary objective of the
virus is destruction of files.
It can permanently overwrite and
corrupt common user files such
as Word documents, Excel
spreadsheets, PDF's and digital
photos.
Individuals and Small businesses
are the main victims of the
virus because they do not have
up to date anti virus
protection.
Experts have advised users to
avoid opening unknown or
suspicious attachments to
prevent their system being
infected by the virus.
They also encourage PC owners to
download the latest versions of
their anti-virus software to
protect themselves.
KamaSutra worm is designed to
overwrite all .doc, .xls, .mdb,
.mde, .ppt, .pps, .zip, .rar, .pdf,
.psd, and .dmp files. It has
gained the attention of the
anti-virus community because of
its ability to deceive Windows
through phony digital signatures
and seems to have been created
for the sole purpose of doing
damage and not for commercial
gain.
The virus has also gained
attention in both the general
and technology press due to a
unique Web site that supposedly
shows a running counter of
infected computers, as well as
its reliance on sexually
suggestive emails, which spread
the virus.
This virus is also known as
W32.Blackmal.E@mm (Symantec),
Win32.Blackmal.F, Win32/Blackmal.F!Worm,
Win32/Cabinet!Worm, CME-24,
WORM_GREW.A (Trend), W32/Mywife.d@MM
