Vehicles With No Marchamo Will Be Towed
Transit officials had given drivers until January 31 to pay up the 2006 Marchamo or face vehicle and/or plate confiscation.

Due to the long lines at Riteve, the vehicle inspection centres, Transit officials made the decision early last month to only issue fines to drivers with vehicles without the Marchamo.

However, beginning today, not only will Tránsitos (traffic police) issue the ˘10.000 colones fine but will also confiscate the plates and/or two the vehicle.

The owner of the vehicle than has to go through the hardous task of retrieving the vehicle after all fines are paid.

Transit officials say that at some 20% of the 800.000 registered vehicles have not paid their Marchamo. A number of vehicles are not in use or their owners are out of the country.
