Nicaragua May Boot Electric
Company
Angry for the continued
blackouts and still without an
immediate solution, local civil
organizations convoked the
people to demand the withdrawal
of Spanish transnational Union
Fenosa from Nicaragua.
The sit-in, which aims at
demanding the revocation of the
operating contract of that firm,
will take place on Dec 11 in
front of the offices of the
Nicaraguan Energy Institute, the
regulator entity of that sector
in the nation.
Protestors also want that power
generating and distributing
companies to present an integral
evaluative report of the energy
sector.
Union Fenosa, the main energy
venture in Nicaragua, scheduled
up to four-hour power a day cuts
as a result of the energy crisis
affecting the country since
August.
It holds generating plants
responsible for the situation
while those plants blame the
Spanish venture for its delay in
paying the contracted energy.
