Ortega
Accuses US of Interference
Former Nicaraguan President and
presidential candidate Daniel
Ortega on Thursday accused the
United States of interfering
"openly and barefacedly" in his
country´s elections.
Speaking on the Telesur program
"Agenda del Sur", Ortega noted
that US Ambassador to Nicaragua
Paul Trivelli has kicked off a
campaign to bring the Nicaraguan
rightwing candidates together
for the November 6 elections.
The Nicaraguan politician
pointed out that this maneuver
is aimed at opposing the
Sandinista Front, which is
supported by a majority of the
people.
According to Ortega, that is the
main reason for a permanent
election battle in Nicaragua.
"US interference does not let
the people choose their
president freely," he stressed.
According to the ex president,
the US government funds and
supports the county´s rightwing
sectors.
