Miss
Costa Rica Celebrates Religious
Wedding
Although joined in a civil
ceremony in November 2003, Miss
Costa Rica 200, Piarella
Peralta, and her husband, Dutch
banker Tiemo Wesseling, longed
for a religious celebration of
their love, and on April 1, 2006
the former beauty queen,
escorted by her mother and
brother, walked down the aisle
of the 18th century Iglesia de
Orosi in Cartago in order to
reaffirm her pledge of devotion
to the man she loves.
Wearing a white wedding gown
created with a full ballgown
skirt by Miami dressmaker
Belinda's Designs, the bride
exchanged white gold wedding
bands with her husband during a
mid-afternoon ceremony witnessed
by 225 guests.
The vows were recited in
Spanish, with Dutch translations
provided.
Following the nuptials, the
couple gathered with family and
friends beneath a tent erected
on the grounds of the Rancho Rio
Perlas hotel, a 49-room
Spanish-style sanctuary that
opened its doors to the public
in 2002.
