UN Forbids Protecting or
Inciting Terrorism
A high-level UN Security Council
meeting on peace and security
threats has called for denying
protection to anyone about whom
there is reliable and relevant
information that he or she is
guilty of terrorist acts.
A resolution approved at the end
of this special session on
Wednesday also recommended that
member countries take all
necessary measures within
international law to fight
against incitement of committing
terrorist acts.
"We should work to persuade
disaffected groups not to use
terrorism as a technique," said
UN Secretary General Kofi Annan
at the inauguration of this
summit.
The UN Security Council"s
resolution called additionally
for all member countries to
continue their international
efforts to promote dialogue,
improve understanding between
communities and cities, and
prevent indiscriminate attacks
against different religions and
cultures.
It also prohibited incitement of
terrorist acts, and condemned
terrorism in all its forms and
manifestations regardless of
motive, time or perpetrator of
the acts.
The resolution said that the UN
member countries should
corroborate that any measure
taken against terrorism is
consistent with international
humanitarian, refugee and human
rights laws.
