More In-Coming than Out-Going Remittances
The money sent by Costa Ricans who live and work in the United States double the amount that Nicaraguans working here send to their families.

Last year, the recorded remittances from the United States amounted to us$239 million, which is 79% of the overall us$302 million received.

Meanwhile, the figures for remittances to Nicaragua amounted to us$132 million, 85% of the overall us$155 million sent out of Costa Rica.

In both directions, the remittances have steadily increased over the last 10 years. According to the Central Bank of Costa Rica, close to half of the national abroad are professionals, while the balance work in construction and services, such as security guards, clerks, waiters, maintenance men, etc.

The Nicaraguans here work mostly in construction, domestics and as farm hands.
