Lawyer Wants Fujimori Behind
Bars
Chilean attorney Alfredo
Etcheberry, who represents Peru
in the Fujimori case, has said
that he will request from his
country´s justice to maintain
the Peruvian ex president behind
bars while his extradition
process goes on.
"We will request from the
Chilean judges to maintain his
freedom restricted, because we
believe there is a chance that
he might want to escape," he
insisted.
He added that they supported the
circumstances around Fujimori´s
trip from Tokyo to Santiago,
Chile, when evaded the INTERPOL
control system at least in three
countries.
He said there is no legal way to
prevent the ex president from
carrying out political
campaigning from Chile for the
elections in April, 2006.
He said the Chilean government
should decide on this regard.
The Peruvian Justice Minister
clarified that he had already
warned he will not allow
Fujimori to make political
propaganda from Chile, because
that could cloud bilateral
relations.
Etcheberry reported that all the
extradition files that sustain
Fujimori´s crimes will be sent
to Chile.
