Costa Rican Scientist Honoured at NASA
NASA acknowledged the work of Costa Rican scientist Jeannette Benavides, who was awarded the Medal to Exceptional Technological Achievement.

Costa Rican born chemist Benavides developed a method to lower the cost of production of carbon nanotubes, very small carbon structures which are able to conduct electricity much better than copper, have a large capacity to transmit heat, and are more resistant than steel.

The award was part of NASA's honors to those who made extraordinary contributions to aeronautical and space programs in 2004.
