Fires destroy over 900 hectares of Colombian forests
The fires that raged in central Colombian departments of Cundinamarca and Boyaca continued on Tuesday and have destroyed over 900 hectares of forests, said the authorities.

In Cundinamarca, the government issued a yellow alert to mobilize local emergency organizations into the efforts of putting out the fires.

More than 1,000 people from rescue organizations, the military and 36 firefighter groups were still battling the fires which remained active in nine municipalities of the department.

One of the most affected places was Nemocon, northeast Cundinamarca, where three fires have destroyed 400 hectares of primary forest.

Onofre Sierra, director of the Disaster Prevention and Attention Office, said the forests affected by the fires will be from 800 to 1,200 hectares in Cundinamarca alone.
