Limited Hours and Closings During Semana Santa

Limited Hours and Closings During Semana Santa
Hurry, you only have a few days before government offices and public institutions close for the Semana Santa holiday.

With the exception of the Intstituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) and state banks, all government offices and services will shut down from closing on Friday March 18 to the morning of Monday March 28. The government issued the closing decree some time back, saying that this will save the public coffers money.

ICE, FyL, RACSA, Banco Nacional and Banco de Costa Rica will remain open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week, but will be closed on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The AyA (water) will be open only on Monday and Tuesday

Private banks will be closed only on Thursday and Friday,  many will be open on Saturday. You need to check with your bank branch for the times. All automated teller machines will operate as normal.

Some supermarkets will be closed on Friday and with limited hours on Thursday. Check the hours posted outside of your favourite supermarket for opening and closing times.

While hospitals will operate normally, private clinics may have restricted hours of attention and reduced staff.

Semana Santa which gets underway this Friday is traditionally a time for Ticos to head for the beaches and other recreational areas of the country, returning back to normalcy on Monday March 28.
