Some 300 persons gathered outside the doors of the La Reforma penitentiary to participate in a day of prayer, organized by friends of former president Rafael Angel Calderón, who will celebrate his 56th birthday in preventive detention.

The prayer headed by father Gerardo Badilla in which friends and family participated, praying for the former president's health.

Calderón has not been idelewhile sitting in a solitary cell in the prison, he delivered yesterday to his wife a proposed bill of law to create a "Defensoría de los Privados de Libertad" - a kind of Ombudsman for those in prison.
